Blue Devils Liking Durham in 2012

Preston Durham

One of South Carolina's more intriguing and productive prospects is Inman (S.C.) Chapman High standout Preston Durham. The Blue Devils are in early and hosted the talented prospect for junior day.

"I play fullback, linebacker, and tight end for my high school team," said 6-foot-1, 200 pound athlete Preston Durham. "I am being recruited as a linebacker for the next level."

Durham, a three year starter at Chapman, spent his first two seasons breaking a couple school records. As a freshman he broke the season tackle record with 126 stops. The next season, he topped that mark with 132 tackles. In 2010, during his junior year, Durham registered 130 tackles en route to all-area honors.

So what has made the talented Palmetto State prospect so productive?

"I think it's my pre-game preparation combined with my speed and quickness. The thing most coaches have notices has been my first step to the ball. I do need to work on continuing to add weight and you can always get faster."

In the weight room Durham has a recorded bench press max of 300 pounds, a 425 pound squat, and a 285 pound best on the power clean. All while maintaining a 4.6 forty time and a 30 inch vertical jump.

Away from the gridiron Durham has worked hard to become the complete package for college recruiters as well. He reports a 4.8 GPA, which is good enough to be ranked second in his class.

It's something the Blue Devils took notice of early a reason Duke has been reaching out on the recruiting trail with regularity.

"I am being recruited by Coach [Derek] Jones who seems to be really open and honest. Duke's major pitch so far is education. I like the emphasis being on academics and I really like Coach Cutcliffe and the facilities there."

Duke isn't the only school making an early charge for Durham. Though he doesn't report any offers, a number of schools are routinely sending letters and requesting highlight film.

"I hear from Duke, NC State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Maryland, Miami, South Carolina, Cincinnati, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, UCLA, USC, Kentucky, LSU, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Stanford, Yale, Harvard, Brown, and Princeton."

"I've been invited and attended camps at Vanderbilt, Florida and North Carolina. I also attended the ESPN Nike Rise invitational combine at Va Tech in 2010. I attended Junior day at Duke and plans to attend Georgia Tech and others. This summer I am going to attend one day camps at Duke, Clemson, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech."
