Alex Murphy will head to Duke a year earlier than expected.
The St. Mark’s junior (Mass.) has met all the academic requirements and will play for the Blue Devils this fall.
``It was a difficult decision, but I felt it was best for me,” said the 6-foot-9 Murphy. ``It’s a great opportunity.”
Murphy will come in and have a chance to go with the team to China and Dubai in August.
In the original class of 2012 rankings the 6-foot-9, 195 pound Massachusetts native was considered the nation's No. 2 small forward and a five star prospect and the No.11 overall player.
Enrolling early, however, doesn't mean Murphy will be in uniform for the 2011-2012 season. Sources indicate that a decision regarding whether Murphy redshirts next fall or not will not be made until sometime during the preseason depending on whether or not he can crack the regular rotation.
