Cutcliffe and Jackson Come To Resolution

Terrell Jackson

Head coach David Cutcliffe has made a practice out of stressing a mutual commitment whenever his program moves through a recruiting process with an individual prospect. So when Ohio defensive lineman Terrell Jackson's commitment seemed to be wavering, Duke reached out….

Columbus (Ohio) Marion-Franklin defensive tackle Terrell Jackson committed to Duke in December. But soon after the three star prospect began looking to take additional official visits to difference schools including trips to Illinois, Michigan State, and Pittsburgh. During this time Jackson told Scout.com he was simply looking at his options.

That prompted a conversation with Duke head coach David Cutcliffe this weekend as Jackson was heading to Pittsburgh.

"He called me on the way up and it was pretty much a hardball situation. I respect and love Coach Cutcliffe, but he said they knew where my heart was and he wished me good luck. He was really good about it, and I'm the kind of guy who has a hard time telling anyone bad news. But it worked out on its own."

And now Jackson is free to pursue a dream of playing in the Big 10, though future ACC member Pittsburgh made quite the impression this weekend.

"Honestly I was really impressed with Pitt this weekend. They showed me a lot of things I didn't know about on campus. They are just really different from the other schools I've seen. As far as the conference thing goes, I do like the Big 10 a lot so that's something to consider as well."

This weekend Jackson will visit Michigan State after the Spartans have joined the throng of schools jumping in late.

"Honestly I would have liked these schools to come in earlier with me, because now I'm under the gun to make a big decision without a lot of time to process it. [My decision] will probably be really close to Signing Day."

Meanwhile the Blue Devil will look to round out their class with one or two late commitments from the class of 2012.
