Coach's Corner: Casey Blaser

Casey Blaser

Duke OL coach John Latina spoke with TDD about Duke's 2012 Charlotte (N.C.) OL commit.

Name: Casey Blaser
Position: Offensive Lineman
Ht/Wt: 6-foot-4, 265 pounds
Projected 2012 Status: Redshirt

Early Evaluation: "He was already signed when I got to Duke in January, so I didn't get a chance to evaluate him as a prospective recruit. What I did see on tape really appealed to me. One thing I really liked was his toughness. He plays with a really nasty attitude when he's engaging his opponents. He's got the size and the frame to be a really good player for us over the course of his career." - John Latina

A Nasty Streak: "When you watch Casey play you see a guy who stays after it all the way through the play. He doesn't stop engaging and blocking his man until the whistle goes. In all the game tape we saw, he never once let up. He was just relentless on the inside. That was something that really stood out, and something I really focused on when reviewing him. He finishes his blocks and puts his guy on the ground. I really liked his tape." - John Latina

Position Projections: "We think he's going to start off on the inside as a guard or center, but he certainly has the length and potential to grow into an outside lineman." - John Latina

Career Path: "The plan with Casey and all linemen is to redshirt them as freshmen. You never know how a lineman is going to transition from high school to college. We want him to come in and start working with our strength and conditioning program for the summer and see how he makes the switch to this level. He's already added some weight and we think he'll play this season around 280-282 pounds." - John Latina

Recruiting Recap: Blaser picked Duke over offers from Ball State, East Carolina, and Marshall last summer. At the time of his commitment, Blaser left no doubt that he was going to be a Blue Devil.

"I'm not looking at any other schools," Blaser told TDD. "I'm rock solid with Duke." Recommended Stories
