North Carolina Central (1-1) at Duke (1-1)
Sept. 15, 7:00, ESPN3
Here's The Deal: Duke was served a reality check on the Farm Saturday night, losing 50-13 to Stanford a week after opening impressively against Florida International. The Blue Devils get a couple of winnable upcoming games to beef up their record before jumping into the meat of the ACC schedule. North Carolina Central, a second-tier team out of the MEAC has split its first two as well, beating Division II Fayetteville State, and falling to Elon.
Why North Carolina Central Might Win: Hope for an upset in Durham rests with a couple of seniors on each side of the ball. WR Geovonie Irvine has caught a touchdown pass in each game, and should see some space against a flimsy Duke D. DT Stephen Young already has five stops for loss, causing havoc from the inside.
Why Duke Might Win: The Eagles defense will be no match for the Blue Devils passing game. When faced with an opponent closer to his own team's ability, QB Sean Renfree picked apart Florida International in the opener. He's a solid vet, with access to talented wide receivers Conner Vernon, Jamison Crowder and Desmond Scott.
What To Watch Out For: Renfree is the entrenched starter, but David Cutcliffe still wants to find ways to get backups Anthony Boone and Brandon Connette. Both are quality athletes, who can give defenses different looks once they get outside the pocket.
What Will Happen: The Blue Devils offense will trample the Eagles D from the outset, piling up more than 300 yards through the air. This is a rare opportunity for Duke to shove an opponent around, and it won't pass on the chance to flex its muscles or pick up a much-needed win.
CFN Prediction: Duke 57 … North Carolina Central 9
