DURHAM, N.C. - Duke safety Jordon Byas was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week, as announced on Monday by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
A 6-1, 220-pound redshirt senior, Byas amassed a career-high 11 tackles and his first career interception in Duke's 34-27 win at Wake Forest. The victory improved Duke’s record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the ACC. Byas came up huge in the fourth quarter when, with the score tied at 20-20, he recorded five of his tackles – including a half sack and a half tackle for loss – as Duke finished off its third straight win.
Byas' career-best performance came just two games after he returned from a three-week injury hiatus. After missing Duke's first three games recovering from knee surgery, Byas has started Duke's last two games and totaled 17 tackles.
Byas is the third Duke player to earn ACC Player of the Week honors this season and the second to receive ACC Defensive Back of the week recognition, joining cornerback Ross Cockrell and wide receiver Conner Vernon.
Byas and the Blue Devils will look to improve on their 4-1 start this Saturday, Oct. 6, in a 3 p.m. tilt with ACC for Virginia. For tickets, visit GoDuke.com/Tickets
