The preseason scrimmage took place on Friday night in Cameron Indoor Stadium featuring the annual Blue-White scrimmage.

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke fans had their first opportunity to see the 2012-13 Blue Devils in action at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday evening and head coach Mike Krzyzewski's crew did not disappoint during the fourth annual Countdown to Craziness. The crowd was loud and animated throughout an evening that included several student group performance, a Plumlee Brothers tribute video to the Bachelor, a jersey presentation to Nobel Prize winner Dr. Robert Lefkowitz and a pair of highly competitive 10-minute scrimmages.

"I'll say it again. I've been saying it for three years and this is my fourth year - we've got the best fans in the world," said senior Ryan Kelly. "We were excited to show them what we have as a team. This is our first step. We have a week of practices in, and we wanted to show our fans what we've learned so far. We've got a long way to go, but it was still an awesome, awesome night."

In The Opening scrimmage, seniors Mason Plumlee and Kelly powered the White team to a 26-15 win. The veteran post tandem combined for 15 points, four rebounds and four assists while shooting 7-of-11 from the field. The White team, coached by Steve Wojciechowski, went 11-of-20 from the field, including 10-of-13 from inside the three-point arc, with nine assists and just two turnovers in the opening 10 minutes of action. Junior Josh Hairston paced the Blue squad with eight points on 4-of-8 shooting, while Mississippi State transfer Rodney Hood added five points on a pair of smooth finishes in the lane.

The Blue team rebounded in the second scrimmage with a 29-18 win behind solid play from sophomore Quinn Cook. The Washington, D.C., native racked up nine points on 4-of-5 shooting and added an assist and a steal. Kelly switched over to the Blue team for the second scrimmage and added eight points, two rebounds and two steals, while Hood contributed eight points, two rebounds and a steal.

Freshman Rasheed Sulaimon paced the White team in the second stanza with 10 points on two nice finishes in traffic and two three-point field goals.

As a group, the Blue Devils shot 46.8 percent (36-of-77) from the floor for the evening, despite going just 4-of-20 from three-point range. Kelly led the team in scoring with 15 points, with Sulaimon and Hood close behind with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Plumlee added 12 points and six rebounds while going 5-of-9 from the field.

Redshirt freshman Alex Murphy showcased his versatile game with nine points, a team-high eight rebounds and three blocks. The Wakefield, R.I., native scored in a variety of ways with a three-pointer, a put back off an offensive rebound and with a driving finish in traffic.

Senior Seth Curry and redshirt freshman Marshall Plumlee sat out Friday's action with lower leg injuries. Curry is expected to be ready for the start of the season, while Plumlee will miss 6-8 weeks with a stress fracture in his left foot.

"It was fun and it was really competitive," said Quinn Cook who had 11 points and four assists while leading his team to wins in both scrimmages. "Guys were really trying to win, and that's the best thing. All the new guys played great. Ryan [Kelly] and Mason [Plumlee] played great. I wish Seth [Curry] was out there because I know he would've put on a show like he did last year."

Duke opens exhibition play on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium against defending Division II national champions Western Washington.
