2014 RB Talks Duke Visit

Josh Brown

This season Duke has enjoyed the production of a former highly recruited running back from Georgia. In the class of 2014, the Blue Devils have identified another Peach State prospect and recently had him on campus for an unofficial visit.

"Right now I'm hearing from a number of schools," said Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood junior RB Josh Brown. "I don't have any offers at this time, but I get a lot of mail from Duke, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Missouri, Cincinnati, Penn State, Florida, South Florida, Central Florida, Clemson, Virginia, TCU, and Rutgers."

Currently Brown is sharing carries with class of 2013 three star prospect Jamaal Cole in the Brookwood backfield . Next season he'll bump up as the primary back. By then, expect a number of schools to have jumped in with scholarship offers. One potential offer may come from Duke as the Blue Devils have made an early impression on Brown.

"Duke's presentation and what they offer overall is very impressive for me," said Brown. "Coach Cutcliffe seems to have the program going in the right direction and is enjoying really good success in his fifth season. I really like what Duke does in terms of balancing their offense with the run and passing game."

Brown, like many other recruits, had a chance to see that balance and the program as a whole up close recently when he came to Durham for the game against North Carolina.

"I was on campus from around 4PM until midnight last Saturday. Everyone I talked to was very friendly, energetic, and excited. My favorite moments were how everyone in the stands stood for the Duke defense on every third down. Also, it was great when the entire team ran over to the UNC sideline to grab the Victory Bell."

"After the game, I had a chance to congratulate the coaches on the exciting win. Additionally, Coach Cutcliffe addressed all the recruits and I got a chance to meet my recruiting coach, Coach John Latina. I had been in contact with Coach Latina, and he's asked for my mid-season highlight tape…I emailed that to him this week after I got home."

Chad Simmons, one of Scout.com's regional analysts, describes Brown as a prospect who is a "strong runner who runs low to the ground, and who has good speed.

That skill set has shown at times this high school season. Some of Brown's top performances include a 246 yard tally (on 21 carries) on Sept 7th against Brookwood; and on October 5th when he scored three rushing touchdown, and hauled in a fourth through the air against Dacula (97 yards rushing and 23 yards receiving). For his efforts this season, Brown has been award Player of the Month honors by the Gwinnett County Touchdown Club.
