Massillon tight end Beau Huffman has not been fully healthy this season, but now that he is at 100%, he is a key factor in the Tigers' much anticipated playoff run in Ohio.
Huffman, 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, came up big last week in Massillon's 37-29 win over Canton McKinley. His one-hand, third-down catch early in the game keyed the first score for the Tigers, and his blocking helped the running game all game long.
"That catch was unbelievable and I saw the blitz and knew I had to get open. I could only get one hand near the ball, and it just stuck," Huffman said, of the circus catch. "We needed to convert that third down, because we really wanted an early touchdown."
"I didn't play in the McKinley game last year, so this was an awesome experience," he added. "This game is exactly what every player says it is, especially from an emotional standpoint. This games means everything to our town and to our school, so I feel blessed to be a part of it."
After an impressive summer camp season, Huffman landed an offer from Toledo. He is also receiving recruiting interest from other programs.
"I do have the offer from Toledo," he explained. "I've been invited to see games at Michigan State, Wisconsin, California, Arizona State, North Carolina State, and a few others. I've only been to Duke so far, and we plan on playing the next five Saturdays, so visits will be tough."
"I know all the coaches at Duke since my brother (Brett) just finished his career there," Huffman continued. "I love it there, and they tell me they're close to offering. I stay in contact with them pretty often. I want to get to Toledo at some point, and I'd love to check out as many schools as possible."
