On Monday night, Ball State picked up its second commitment from the top high school football team in North Carolina. Matthews (N.C.) Butler linebacker Sean Wiggins became the latest prospect to commit to the Cardinals.

Sean Wiggins is one of the most underrated prospects North Carolina. On Monday night, he committed to Ball State.

“I had been talking them a lot over the past couple of weeks,” he said. “Then, they were at the school on Monday and we talked about everything after practice. I told them I would go home and talk to my family. After I talked to them, I called the coaches and told them I wanted to commit.”

“It felt amazing when I made the commitment. I was getting tired of the whole (recruiting) process, not knowing where you are going to be the next four years of your life is not great.”

“The coaches were happy -- they were all happy.”

Before making his decision, Wiggins talked with a current Ball State player.

“My old teammate Jahwan Edwards plays for them and he was back in town this weekend,” said Wiggins. “I got to hang out with him and we just talked about everything. “

The Cardinals’ coaching staff played a big role in his decision.

“I like all the coaches,” Wiggins said. “They didn’t put any pressure on me to commit-- they just told me to do what you want to do.”

“I have a really good relationship with Coach (Jay) Bateman -- he recruited me. A lot of college coaches try to lie to you and tell you what you want to hear, but he’s straightforward and I feel like I can trust him.”

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Wiggins was able to visit the Ball State campus earlier this year and came away impressed.

“I already took an unofficial visit up to the school to watch a game,” he said. “I got a really good vibe of from the school and the players were really cool. I just liked everything and I feel like the school is on the rise.”

What should Ball State fans expect from Wiggins?

“I’m going to go hard all the time -- that’s one thing I’ll will always bring,” he said. “I just want to help the team win.”

Wiggins chose Ball State over offers from Air Force, Georgia State, Navy, and Richmond. He is the second commitment from Butler in the Cardinals’ 2013 class, joining cornerback David Moore.

This season, Wiggins has 170 tackles, six sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and four interceptions.

Butler is ranked No. 9 in the FOX Sports NEXt Top 50 and takes on Jack Britt for the 4AA state championship this Saturday.
