Central High (Springfield, Mass.) quarterback Cody Williams
doesn't have dates picked out yet, but the next few months should decide where he plays high school football.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Williams is set to camp at Virginia, Duke and North Carolina State – three schools still looking to add a quarterback to its 2014 class – and well as continue to talk to several FCS schools, including a few Ivy League programs.
"I'm going to be setting up a day to have schools come and watch me throw," said Williams, who competed in the Elite 11 and Nike Football Training Camp last weekend. "One thing I learned is I can compete with the top guys in the nation. The coaching was very good."
The Elite 11 allowed Williams to get tips on his mechanics, and a key working point is to tighten up his mechanics, which he is working on as schools get ready to watch him throw.
"Virginia is coming in to see me in May," Williams said. "I'm heading down there also. I don't know too much about offense but they said they would be in contact in May and we would set up a date."
Williams is also planning a trip to Duke, and he is in regular contact with Blue Devils quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper and also likes what Duke coach David Cutcliffe brings to an offense.
"Cutcliffe is the master right now," Williams said. "He's developed some good quarterbacks. I'd love to play there behind him. I'm going down for the camp. Coach (Roper) saw my film and was like, ‘Get him down here to throw.' "
And while North Carolina State isn't expressing a ton of interest, Williams added, "they said to stop by as well when I was at Duke."
As a junior, Williams completed 102 of 159 passes for 1,797 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions, and he is looking for a particular offense in college.
"I like a pro-style offense," he said. "I want a school that has an offense with the quarterback under center and not looking to be in shotgun all the time."
Central High (Springfield, Mass.) quarterback Cody Williams is readying to throw during the spring evaluation period and is also looking forward to several team camps this summer.
