Tanner Stone out for the season

Duke football received the preseason's first bit of bad news this week as head coach David Cutcliffe announced an injury to Tanner Stone.

"Tanner Stone will undergo surgery tomorrow, and will be out for the season," said Coach Cutcliffe. "His spirits are good, and we'll all be there to support him through a difficult rehabilitation."

Stone, a redshirt freshman offensive tackle was expected to be the primary backup at right tackle behind fifth year senior Perry Simmons. With the injury, it's likely Duke will move redshirt freshman Casey Blaser over as the primary backup.

Prior to the injury, Stone had emerged on the two-deep after a strong spring practice that saw him work with the first team offensive line after starter Takoby Cofield was held out due to injury.
