Sulaimon Named ACC Player of the Week

Duke sophomore Rasheed Sulaimon was named ACC Player of the Week for the first time in his career Monday after helping Duke to a pair of ACC wins over Virginia and NC State this past week.

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke sophomore Rasheed Sulaimon was named ACC Player of the Week for the first time in his career Monday after helping Duke to a pair of ACC wins over Virginia and NC State this past week.

Sulaimon, a 6-4 guard from Houston, Texas, averaged a team-high 17.0 points per game during the week with 21 points against Virginia and 13 against NC State. He hit 5-of-7 (.714) three-pointers in the two-game set while shooting 11-of-20 (.550) from the field and 7-of-8 (.875) from the free throw line to go with eight assists and three steals.

Sulaimon keyed Duke's 69-65 win over Virginia by hitting the go-ahead three-pointer with 22 seconds left to push Duke ahead 67-65. The three-pointer was his fourth of the game and capped a second-half performance in which he scored 11 points and dished out four assists with zero turnovers in just 10 minutes of action.

Against NC State, Sulaimon continued his all-around effectiveness, scoring 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting while totaling six assists in just 17 minutes. The double-figure scoring game was Sulaimon's fifth in the past seven outings.

Sulaimon is Duke's top scorer off the bench, averaging 10.4 points per game when not in the starting lineup. He leads Duke with a .485 (16-of-33) three-point shooting percentage on the season and shooting .727 (8-of-11) from beyond the arc in Duke's five ACC games.

The 18th-ranked Blue Devils (14-4, 3-2 ACC) next face Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., this Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on ESPN2.
