Blue Devils offer Tyus Battle

Tyus Battle

After recruiting him for more than three years, the Blue Devils have finally extended an offer to 2016 scoring guard Tyus Battle.

According to multiple reports, and later confirmed by sources close to the situation, the Blue Devils have offered five star scoring guard Tyus Battle.

The 6-foot-6 New Jersey native is rated as a five star prospect by Scout.com and is considered as the nation’s No. 3 shooting guard and the No. 12 overall player in the class. He is described as follows but he Scout.com national recruiting team.

“Battle is a big-time perimeter shooter with easy range from downtown and also is a capable pull-up shooter who elevates very high off the dribble. He's a fine handler as well with an above-average first step, and thus he can play without the ball or use it to create for himself. He's slender but not frail, and over time he should develop ample strength to play on both ends of the court. He's also an above-average athlete.”

Duke has recruited Battle for several years running, beginning with then associate head coach Chris Collins reaching out to him during his freshman season, followed by associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski taking over the recruiting following Collins’ departure for Northwestern. When Wojciechowski left for the Marquette job, new assistant Jon Scheyer picked up the recruitment’s lead.

Battle has other high major offers from schools such as Michigan, Connecticut, Syracuse, and Indiana. It’s a long way from where the process started according to the prospect’s father, Gary Battle.

"When we started this process back in sixth grade - that's when we believed Tyus could probably play at the college level - we had only a few things we wanted to achieve," said Mr. Battle. "We wanted Tyus to have a chance to play in college, and we told him if he could earn a scholarship to play Division I basketball, then that was a success. Now that we've continued to move forward and progress, I think we're probably going to achieve that goal, so we have to modify it a bit."
