Roof Keeps 'Em Rolling - Earns 4th Verbal

Fred Roland

After improving the Blue Devils on the field, interim head coach Ted Roof is now making big strides in improving the program for the future. On Thursday Roof earned a fourth verbal commitment from the class of 2004.

Heading into the class of 2004's recruiting season the Blue Devils needed help on the offensive line. The latest big addition comes from Hephzibah High school in Georgia in the form of 6-foot-8, 300 pound Fred Roland.

"Fred committed to Duke today," Hephzibah Head Coach Todd Booker said. "He told me he made up his mind this morning so we called coach Roof with the news. Fred really loves coach Roof and the university."

Roland is a huge offensive tackle prospect. He is 6-8 and 300 pounds. Roland played on the defensive line until this season where he moved to offensive tackle.

"We knew that's where he would play in college so we made the move with Fred. Honestly, he has had a great year because he has gotten better and better each week. This kid has so much potential. His wing span is incredible and he has such great feet. Fred actually ran a 5.3 forty. His frame could easily add another 40-50 pounds. And he is very athletic."

Roland committed to Duke over Vanderbilt, Louisville, Clemson, South Carolina, Middle Tennessee State and others.
