Injury Report Doesn't Look Good For Duke

The hits just keep on coming for the Duke Blue Devils in 2005. After a disappointing loss against Navy on Saturday, head coach Ted Roof and his staff received word on Sunday that the team’s top receiver, Jomar Wright, is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Wright is scheduled for surgery later this week. In a little over four games this season Jomar Wright had caught eight balls for 155 yards and one touchdown despite Duke’s anemic overall passing game.

"Jomar was making some plays," Roof said. "The catch he made on the play [when] he got hurt was fantastic -- I thought that ball was going to be in third row. But he went up and got it and made somebody miss, and then it was just freaky the way it happened.

"It didn't look bad, but what happened was he got caught with one leg up in the air, and his leg that was on the ground got mangled up."

The loss of Wright means freshmen Eron Riley will likely be elevated into a more prominent role along with true freshman Marcus Jones, who is considered to be the best athlete on the entire Duke roster. Still the task is daunting for the little used duo with the prospect of facing a very fast Miami secondary this weekend.

The receiving corps wasn’t’ the only group to take a big hit this week either. Running backs Cedric Dargan and Re'quan Boyette are expected to miss this week’s games after sustaining injuries earlier in the year that have progressively worsened over time.

"It seems like when the injury bug bites, it's all at the same spot," said head coach Ted Roof of his backfield. "But at the same time, that's part of the deal of playing running back at this level, the unfortunate part of it.

"Thank goodness we have a little depth there."

Boyette and Dargan are officially listed as doubtful, meaning return specialist Ronnie Drummer will likely move up the depth chart to play alongside starting tailback Justin Boyle. On the season, Drummer has rushed for 49 yards on just 10 carries.
