Sophomore guard is expected to be out between six and eight weeks.

DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke sophomore guard DeMarcus Nelson, who fractured the medial malleolus of his right tibia in a game vs. Drexel on Nov. 23, underwent surgery to repair the injury Monday. The 6-3, 195-pounder is expected to be out 6-8 weeks. He will be evaluated on a continuing basis by Dr. Claude T. Moorman and Dr. Jim Nunley during this time period.

"We will definitely miss DeMarcus," said Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. "We’re pleased that the surgery was successful and that we can expect him to be back at 100 percent later in the season."

Nelson was averaging 6.5 points and 3.3 rebounds this season in four games of action (three starts). He was 9-of-18 (.500) from the field overall and 3-of-7 (.429) from three-point range. In his career, he has seen action in 37 games, including five starts.

No. 1 Duke (5-0) returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 30, with a game at No. 20 Indiana (3-0) as part of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.
