Blue Devils Earn First 2008 Commit

Duke was looking to start the 2008 recruiting season off with a bang, and that's just what they did on the strength of assistant coach Scottie Montgomery's recruiting efforts.

"Yes sir, I am committed to Duke," said 6-foot-3, 275lbs Ransom School offensive tackle Brian Moore. "I attended their junior day and the basketball game against Georgia Tech. After thinking about it, I knew Duke was it, and I committed."

Moore, who measured out at 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds, has been clocked running a 5.0 in the forty yard dash.

"My speed and flexibility are my strong suits. The coaching staff and I talked about positioning and priorities. It's looking like I will probably be a center when I get to school next summer."

First identified by the Duke coaching staff nearly a year ago, Moore's primary recruiting contact with assistant Scottie Montgomery. The young assistant had built a relationship with Moore that made the commitment on Sunday afternoon that much easier.

"I had visited before, and had liked what I had seen. Then they kept in contact and showed me all the things Duke can offer a player. I am sure it's the right choice."

Last summer Moore attended camp at Florida State and showed well. The Seminoles were just one of many schools showing early interest in the future Blue Devil after a sophomore year in which he recorded 37 pancakes on offense as well as two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Moore had an even better junior year in 2006 as a full time starter on both lines. On offense he led the team with 97 pancakes at his tackle position. When lining up on defense, he recorded 11 sacks, forced three fumbles, and blocked a remarkable three kicks. Those numbers were good enough for 2nd Team All-State honors, and 1st Team All-County (Dade) distinction.
