The Blue Devils' summer camps landed several prospects by the time they were through. One such player is South Carolina cornerback Lee Butler, who earned a Duke offer after displaying 4.3 speed in front of the coaching staff.
Butler, who is ranked as the 27th overall prospect in the state of South Carolina by Scout.com, committed to Duke back on June 10th. Since announcing his decision, Butler has picked up an offer from Vanderbilt. However, he remains solid with the Blue Devils.
Without the benefit of film evaluation, Butler has been rated as a two star defensive back prospect.
Meanwhile, in-state recruiting has also earned the Blue Devils a big fish with the commitment of Lee County runningback Jay Hollingsworth. The 5-foot-11, 185lbs prospect chose Duke over offers from Virginia, East Carolina, Air Force, and some other smaller programs on June 27th.
Currently Hollingsworth is considered the 34th best overall prospect in North Carolina - which makes him the highest rated in-state commitment since Scout.com began state rankings six seasons ago. Last season Duke commits Justin Wilkerson, Adam Banks, and Damian Thornton were rated between 46th and 50th by Scout.
Like Butler, Hollingsworth's film has yet to be evaluated, which renders him a two star player at this time.
The state rankings series will continue to be released by Scout through Friday, July 13th.
