After lauding his team's experience at ACC media day, head coach Ted Roof will now be without one of his defense's most seasoned veterans.
Rising junior, and former freshman All-American, middle linebacker Mike Tauiliili has been suspended indefinitely from the football team policy Roof announced in a statement released by the athletic department on Sunday.
"It concerns me and is disappointing when one of our players puts himself in a difficult circumstance off the football field," Roof said in the statement. "I will investigate and deal with this situation with the seriousness it deserves. Michael will be suspended indefinitely from the team until we have learned all the facts."
In each of his first two seasons, Tauiliili led the Blue Devils in tackles, averaging 7.6 stops in 2006.
With their emotional leader now sidelined for the foreseeable future, Duke will turn to rising sophomore linebacker Vincent Rey as the starting MLB.
Rey, who stands 6' and weighs 255 pounds, played in 12 games and recorded 12 tackles in those appearances. Prior to Duke he spent one season at Mercersburg Academy under coach Dan Walker where he was rated as the nation's 77th best linebacker by Scout.com
