Durham, N.C. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) named Duke senior captain DeMarcus Nelson to the 2008 State Farm Division I All-America third team on Saturday.

A guard from Elk Grove, Calif., Nelson led Duke to a 28-6 overall record and 13-3 mark in the ACC. The Blue Devils won the Maui Invitational Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Nelson led the team in scoring (14.5 ppg.), field goals made and attempted (172-of-351), free throws attempted (183) and steals (53). He was also second with 110 made free throws, 197 rebounds (5.8 rpg.) and 100 assists.

Nelson finished his college career ranked 33rd on Duke’s all-time scoring list with 1,336 career points. He also finished 28th with 606 career rebounds. He is one of only six players in school history to record over 1,300 points, 600 rebounds, 200 assists and 125 steals in a career.

On Friday night Nelson played in the NABC DiGiorno’s College All-Star game and was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player. He led all scorers with 21 points to help his Nationals squad beat the American team 106-100. He shot 6-of-12 from the field, 2-of-5 from the three-point line and 7-of-9 from the foul line while adding five rebounds, one assist and one steal in a team-high 26 minutes.

Nelson has also been named honorable mention All-America by the Associated Press and this season.
