DURHAM, N.C. – Tony Jackson rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown while Wesley Oglesby returned a fumble for another score as the White squad defeated the Blue team, 14-3, at the Duke Football Spring Game in front of 3,250 fans on Saturday afternoon at Wallace Wade Stadium.

The Blue squad jumped on top 3-0 when Nick Maggio booted a 24-yard field goal with 37 seconds left in the opening quarter. The scoring drive was set up by Michael Tauiliili’s recovery of a fumbled punt at the Blue 11 yard line.

The White team responded immediately as Jackson sprinted 75 yards down the left sideline for a touchdown on the next snap from scrimmage. Joe Surgan’s extra point made the score 7-3 with 26 seconds remaining in the period.

After a Kevin Jones punt pinned the Blue team back at its own 10 yard line, Oglesby accounted for the only scoring in the second half by scooping up a fumble and returning it seven yards for a touchdown midway through the fourth period.

Jackson paced the White squad with 85 rushing yards on five carries while Clifford Harris added 40 yards on five rushing attempts. Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis completed eight-of-13 tosses for 53 yards with tight end Brett Huffman catching a team-best three passes for 24 yards. The White defense was paced by Eddie Morgan’s seven total tackles while Vincent Rey added six stops.

Blue quarterback Zack Asack hit on 14-of-17 pass attempts for 107 yards. Eron Riley led all receivers with six catches for 49 yards. On defense, the Blue unit received four tackles from Marcus Jones and three from both Glenn Williams and Marvin Marcelin.

Spring practice awards were announced at halftime of Saturday’s game: Most Improved Defensive Players – Clifford Respress & Chris Rwabukamba; Most Improved Offensive Players – Sheldon Bell & Brett Huffman; Most Improved Special Teams Player – Marcus Jones; Devil Heart Award – Kevin Wu.
