DURHAM, N.C. -- Junior quarterback Zack Asack completed 10-of-15 passes for 88 yards and freshman running back Jay Hollingsworth rushed for two touchdowns to highlight Duke's 80-play situational scrimmage on Saturday night at Wallace Wade Stadium.

“That was as good enthusiasm and energy on both sides of the ball as I’ve been around,” said head coach David Cutcliffe following the scrimmage. “You have to realize that we had a pretty extensive practice before we started scrimmaging. Practice was as crisp as I have seen it.

“Our punter (Kevin Jones) had a good day,” continued Cutcliffe. “Nick Maggio had a good day kicking the ball. That was encouraging. I thought our tackling was really crisp, particularly for our first scrimmage, maybe far better than I thought it would be. I thought we took care of the football for the most part. It was good to see a few freshmen contribute.”

Asack added a 29-yard touchdown run on the evening while rookie wide receiver Johnny Williams led the pass receiving corps with six catches for 56 yards. Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis was eight-for-20 through the air for 57 yards while running back Clifford Harris gained 20 yards on the ground and added two receptions for an additional 30 yards. Patrick Kurunwune contributed a one-yard scoring plunge to the scoring docket.

On defense, Greg Akinbiyi, Glenn Williams and Wesley Oglesby each carded two tackles for loss. Glenn Williams and Oglesby were credited with one quarterback sack apiece.
