Rated as a three star prospect and the No. 44 offensive guard in the country according to Scout.com, Cofield picks Duke over offers from Virginia Tech, East Carolina and Wake Forest as well as interest from Virginia, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Louisville, Stanford, and UCLA.
The pitch to Cofield was something that is becoming commonplace amongst many highly rated recruits.
"They told me that this is a new Duke and to come in and be ready to work hard because we're going to do great things. Duke is changing and heading in the right direction, and I'm excited to be part of it."
Cofield becomes the program's seventh commitment from the class of 2010 - the fifth from the state of North Carolina and the sixth to be rated three stars or higher.
Early on he projected to play guard, but with his growth over the past year the 6-foot-4, 310 pounder may very well project to play offensive tackle at the collegiate level.
He sports a 3.1 grade point average and plans on graduating early from Tarboro High and enrolling early.
