In addition to an early offer from Duke, Simon has picked up offers from East Carolina, Maryland, Mississippi State, South Florida, Stanford, Wake Forest, and Vanderbilt. Alabama and Auburn have also gotten involved with varying levels of interest.
Simon, who measures out at 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, says each of those coaches have worked their own recruiting pitches including Duke. Though the Blue Devil staff has picked up some unexpected endorsements along the way.
"With Coach Middleton there have been a lot of coaches who know and like him. Whenever I've mentioned Coach Middleton to the other coaches they all say that he's a great guy and knows his stuff."
On the flip side of the recruiting process, Simon says he's looking for a school that will provide him a top flight education in the business field. Such an approach has been a topic of conversation when the three star prospect has spoken to the Duke coaches.
"The campus there is really pretty and they have top facilities both now and getting ready to be built. Also it's hard to find a better place to get an education. I'm going to be camping there I think as well as at NC State in June."
Rated as the nation's No. 78 offensive tackle by Scout.com, Simon spent the early part of his career playing defensive tackle, but a year ago he move to the offensive line. There he's continued to excel.
"I feel like I have quick feet and can read the plays very well. I can read the defense and scheme out what they are trying to do. One thing I need to work on is playing through the final whistle. It's kind of easy, at times, to finish off your block and then get a little lazy. I am really working on finding the next person to hit."
